BIOLOGIST/REPORT WRITER

Althouse and Meade is a biological consulting company located in Paso Robles, CA. We are searching for a full-time Biologist/Report Writer to join our team. This individual should be an experienced biologist who is proficient in writing professional biological reports. The candidate should have at least five years of experience with California species and habitats, as well as the ability to write accurate, well-defined, and specialty reports. The Biologist/Report Writer will facilitate and conduct field work, and write/edit corresponding biological reports. The chosen candidate will support and review staff biologists' reports and communicate with the County, or other trustee agencies, as appropriate. He or she will join and collaborate with a highly skilled team of scientists, biologists, GIS analysts, data managers, technicians, and administrative personnel.

Job Summary

 
  • Excellent knowledge of and experience with wildlife and/or plants species of California

  • Minimum 5 years of professional writing experience

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Ability and desire to mentor staff biologists/writers.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate technical information in a clear manner in biological reports

  • Excellent MS Word and technical writing skills

  • Ability to publish and present findings at meetings

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental consulting in the California market

  • Extensive experience preparing technical reports, including biological sections for CEQA/NEPA and FESA/CESA documents

  • Ability to organize and participate in contract compliance

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, possess a valid driver’s license, and be able to pass a background check

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, botany, ecology, wildlife biology or a related discipline from a recognized university

Added Value

  • Experience with habitat and rare plant restoration

  • Experience in managing large biological surveys and projects

  • Certifications as Wildlife Biologist/Ecologist

Work Conditions

  • 75% of time will be in an office environment and 25% will be in the field with staff

  • Primary office location is in Paso Robles

  • Occasional long work-days in the field (10-12 hours)
