Human Resources Manager

Althouse and Meade, a respected biological and environment consultation company, is recruiting for a Human Resources Manager for the downtown Paso Robles office. The HR Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of human resource policies, programs, benefits and best practices for approximately 30 employees.

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with federal and state employment laws

  • Perform full-cycle recruiting

  • Administer web based HRIS applications to maintain employee training, personnel

  • files, onboarding, and benefits and retirement plans

  • Work closely with the Safety Manager with annual training related to safety and state regulated training

  • Support, respond and educate staff regarding benefits and retirement plans

  • Oversee staff performance programs

  • Administer, enter and/or communicate payroll and HRIS programs

  • Analyze wage and salary data for competitive compensation plans

  • Provide counsel to employees and supervisors in resolving human resources issues

  • Handle various employee relations issues including investigating, document and initiating

  • disciplinary actions of employee complaints of discrimination and harassment

  • Communicate policies and other information to employees

  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding policies, benefits, payroll, etc.

  • Mentor and train supervisors and managers regarding human resource matters

  • Represent the company in employment related hearings and investigations


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organization Development or a similar field

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience

  • SPHR or PHR preferred

  • Excellent working knowledge of all key HR functions

  • Intermediate level computer skills including strong knowledge of Office 365, HRIS through

  • Paylocity

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, listening and presentation skills
    Strong knowledge of federal and California employment law

  • Solid organizational and time management skills

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently

  • Able to establish credibility by providing expert consulting advice, being responsive, creating

  • a culture of strong customer service, being accountable, proactive and ethical
